On April 15, 2025, Daytona State College’s Student Government Association hosted its annual Club Banquet. Club members across all DSC campuses came together to enjoy the event, the red-carpet theme showing through the table centerpieces and jazz music in the venue.
Daytona State College student Isaiah Coira-Ortiz appreciated the atmosphere, “It’s really cute,” he said. “The general theme is really nice. It’s really welcoming and very warming.”
Samanta Gonzales, president of the Democratic Club, agreed. “It’s giving very Oscars, like Old Hollywood, especially with the music.” she said.
The banquet gave a unique opportunity for club members to socialize. “It’s a little more informal, but I like to say that we’re still talking about our clubs, but I think it’s a more relaxed atmosphere.” said Frank Gunshanan, English and Quanta Honors professor, and the Democratic Club advisor.
In preparation for the event, each club took the time to nominate a few members for awards like the “Positivity” Award, the “Making a Difference” Award, the “Pinnacle” Award, and the “Above and Beyond” Award. Each award winner received an Oscar-like trophy with their name and award on it.

Kaylie Boyett won three different awards for her involvement in various clubs. “I feel happy that the presidents’ of those clubs chose me for those awards,” she continued, “And for the Above and Beyond, I’m happy that my advisor for PTK thought I deserved it.”
