Daytona State College has dived into the new year with several changes, including a new café in the student service building, changes in the bookstore and new degree programs.
For students following careers in healthcare, this new opportunity is a gateway to their future.
DSC’s School of Health Careers will offer a Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Imaging Science in Spring 2026. Radiological imaging is a field of medicine using technology to create images of the human body
The degree track requires an Associate of Science specializing in related imaging fields. DSC offers this program. However, students from accredited institutions would be eligible to transfer.
The Radiography Program Director at DSC, Dee Vanlandingham, explained the goal of the degree. “For students from multiple imaging disciplines, radiology, sonography, nuclear medicine, and more to continue their education at the bachelor’s level,” she said.
The degree follows two concentrated tracks, Leadership or Computed Tomography, otherwise known as CT.

Students following Leadership concentration prepare for management and administrative roles in healthcare. This would allow students to be set up with all the knowledge required to perform within the field and manage a team.
Students following CT concentration are immersed in healthcare practices similar to X-ray images. “Clinical practicum is included, providing hands-on training at affiliated imaging sites,” Vanlandingham said. “Applied research and professional projects are built into coursework.”
“We are always expanding our advising to meet the needs of our students,” said Elena Henning, Academic Advisor for Daytona State College. With the implementation of the new course, there will be help offered for students struggling with the curriculum.
Additionally, the college would explore research opportunities and internships in the future.
“The college is always exploring gateways for students into their future career,” Je-Marc Sears said, an advisor in Career Services. “We set students up with minor opportunities such as internships, allowing them to succeed in their careers later on.”
Many schools across the country offer the same opportunity and degree program. However, “the program aligns with DSC’s mission by providing affordable and accessible education that meets community workforce needs and supports career advancement in high-demanding healthcare roles,” Vanlandingham said.
