Summer is quickly approaching, and the majority of anime has aired from early to mid-spring for 2022 and has already concluded or will conclude soon. Because of this, it’s the perfect time to look at some of the anime set to return in the coming season. Here are some anime receiving another season this upcoming summer.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4
The fantasy show Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (or DanMachi for short) is finally receiving its 4th season this summer. Following the unexpected events of season 3’s arc, covering volumes 9 through 11 of the light novels, it is discovered that there are monsters with human-like intelligence called Xenos located in the dungeon of Orario, the main city where the story takes place. After the events of season 3’s finale, where the main character Bell and his friends attempt to ease tensions between the people of Orario and the Xenos, it is only natural to wonder what will happen in the following events of the story. For anime watchers, season 4 is said to be covering the events of volumes 12 through 14, where Bell will have to overcome an even greater challenge on his journey as an adventurer.
Overlord, Season 4
That is right my, fellow anime watchers! It is time to prepare for the return of the skeletal overlord and newly crowned Sorcerer King, Ainz Ooal Gown. After 4 years of waiting for any news regarding the overlord anime, it would be anything but an understatement to say that fans (including myself) of the dark fantasy Isekai series were ecstatic to hear it would receive another season in July this year. However, it’s not just another season of the anime being added! Along with it finally receiving its long-awaited 4th season, there was also confirmation by the author Kugane Maruyama that the 15th volume of the light novel will be released on June 30, 2022. This season will cover the events of volumes 10 and 11, where the Ainz will begin his conquest of the many other nations in the new world with his newly established nation and begin negotiations as well with the Dwarven Kingdom. Let’s hope that the conclusion of the storyline for this season properly sets up the highly anticipated movie, which is also officially confirmed, though there is no release date, as of yet. The movie is said to follow volumes 12 and 13 of the “Holy Kingdom” arc.
The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2
After a very long hiatus, since its first season aired back in 2013, there was understandably very little hope for a 2nd season, seeing as most anime of this kind are primarily used to promote the source material. However, it’s my pleasure to announce that the funny hijinks of Sadao Maou (Satan) and his group of allies and enemies-turned-friends in modern day Japan will be returning for this July. Having greatly enjoyed the comedic concept of the devil escaping his fantasy world, magically traveling to Japan and working at a restaurant that parodies McDonalds, I personally cannot wait for what this upcoming season has in store for viewers. While the animation has been revealed as a slight departure from the style of the first season, hopefully the returning cast, along with the story’s comedic elements, will remind people why they love this great and hilarious anime.
