Henry Cron is a first-year part-time student at DSC pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Music Production Technology.
Outside of his classes, Cron is a full-time musician who experiments with many different types of music. His sound changes from song to song, yet Cron mainly stays in the lane of experimental pop. “Most people would call me a hyper pop artist,” he said. Psychedelic, industrial and emo are among the many subgenres of pop that Cron is currently exploring as an artist.
“I had a big love for music at a young age,” said Cron. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, he became inspired by the bustling blues scene alongside his father. From then on, his love for music was ignited. This flame spread when Cron and his friend downloaded various music creation software and began experimenting with sound.
Nowadays, Cron uses Ableton to create the music he publishes. He is also learning how to play the guitar, teaching himself songs such as “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt,” and “Mary” by Alex G.
Cron plans to expand the types of instruments he uses. “I would like to learn more piano or keys,” he said. He is also interested in playing the bass after he masters the guitar. Eventually, Cron wants to purchase an Omnichord as well.
Cron’s inspiration comes from many experimental pop artists such as Charlie XCX, 100 Gecs, and an underground electronic duo dubbed Boards of Canada.
He is working on a new album, and his first single “Becoming U” is already streaming on all major platforms. “Becoming U” is the first song Cron wrote after learning guitar.
The album will be the most emotionally driven and vulnerable release from Cron, as the first single deals with “growing up with generational trauma” and surviving a tough past. “Making this album was very therapeutic for me,” he said.
While music is Cron’s ultimate goal, he wants to pursue a career in audio engineering or any audio tech job that will allow him to continue making music.
You can listen to Cron’s new song “Becoming U” on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or any other music streaming platform.
