The Music Industry Club had been around before COVID-19, but it took a hit when courses went fully online. After things started going back to normal, in Fall of 2020, a young artist decided to step up and bring the club back to order.
Rhys Dimitrev is the president of the club, as well as the one who has made it what it is today. The other cabinet members include Bri Gabe, vice president; Samuel Abraham, secretary; and Chris Evers, treasurer. They all play an important role in what goes on in the club.
Abraham stated the purpose of the club is to “Get people in the music program together to plan projects, network, collaborate, and most importantly, just hang out.”
Typically, the meetings are small, with around ten people in regular attendance, as well as a few who show up sporadically. They try to collaborate, whenever possible, not just musically, but also on things like podcasts and live events. “We all love playing music together, practicing our recording and live sound skills, and putting together projects,” Gabe said. “It just makes sense to do all of that together through the club rather than just on our own.”
The professors who are involved have had a big impact on their students. “The professors are really supportive and encouraging of everyone,” Dimitrev said, “especially the women in the program.”
The club is more than just a means of learning, it’s a safe place for upcoming musicians. Everyone involved is a helping hand, can learn from one another, and can take those experiences and friendships with them when they graduate. “When I got in this program, I had no idea how many friends I would make. I have also gotten so much better at recording, live sound, and also song writing,” Gabe explained. “I now have so many more skills that I can take with me to Belmont University.”
The Music Industry Club is open to everyone involved in DSC and could use the support of our community. Make sure to watch out for them at school and local events, and be sure to check out their social media as well.
