In the heart of Flagler Beach, Florida, the newly established local band, Timing Belt, practices anytime they have a chance. The members, Korvin Brey, Skye Blumenfeld, Brayden Sanders, and Cameron O’fallon, come together to experiment with new music.
Timing Belt got together last October and came out with an album on February 20th, entitled “211.” The album is experimental, with a diverse choice of instruments and samples, and unique combinations of genres.
The band came together authentically, unorganized and unplanned. In early October of 2024, Blumenfeld and Brey got together to “jam.” Blumenfeld is drawn to guitar and keyboard, and Brey is particularly talented at the bass, but both musicians can play just about any instrument. After their first time playing together, they created “211”, “Timing Belts”, and “Sand”, all songs featured on their first album.
Together, they used their “combined forces”, said Brey.

“Starting at the beginning I came over with a Tascam, like a four-track cassette recorder, and I didn’t know how to use anything on the computer.” Blumefeld said. “Korvin was really good at using that computer, so we kind of mixed both of them together.” This allowed them to explore an endless number of sounds.
“I started playing the guitar when I was about 10, and I really got into playing the electric guitar,” Blumenfeld said. He previously had a band with local artist, Patrick Conklin, called Pop Gurl.

“After that, I made music by myself, and I was looking for people to make music with.” He said. Blumenfeld and Brey met working together for over 2 years at Ohana Food Co, where they built a friendship. With both wanting to “experience what it was like to play with other people” they later got together and made that happen.
After meeting a few times, the duo began searching for other musicians to join them. Cameron Ofallen, the drummer for the local band The Talkalots, has recently also become the drummer for Timing Belt. Braydon Sanders, the bass player of The Talkalots, has also recently joined Timing Belt.
Adding these new musicians to the band opened doors to new ideas, and more sound.
Timing Belt stands out because the musicians frequently switch instruments and introduce new ones, creating a unique approach to their music. There is no set structure for their band practices or defined roles. Recently, the band has started exploring new genres, including country and reggae, as part of their ongoing experimentation.
The name came “out of the blue” said Brey. It was Blumenfeld’s idea, as the timing belt is the most important part of his 2000’s Subaru Outback.
“I like the way it looks on paper”, said Blumenfeld.
Timing Belt has one album out, as well as cd’s and other merchandise. They plan to play some live shows in the Flagler Beach area soon. Stay on the lookout for Timing Belt’s new music.
