Daytona State College provides help for all of their faculty members who require services or training to improve their online delivery in order to increase their engagement with Daytona State College students. Cheryl Kohen is the Director for Online Studies and holds a double-major in English and Philosophy and Master of
Science and Information. She is presently completing her doctorate in educational leadership and is providing the very best practices in education.
The faculty who go to the Innovation Center can learn how to screencast which helps
provide their own personal welcome message and video content for their students. Every college student learns differently. Instructors can learn how
to embed video content and place voice-overs to repeat important information for their class. Here is a YouTube link which explains Screen casting. How to Create a Screencast. How to Create a Screencast
Kohen’s team offers a 45-hour online faculty training series as well as updates every
fall and spring semester. She states that Daytona State College students want consistency and simplicity throughout their online classes. The Innovation
Center’s goal is to train Daytona State College professors to instruct students in the very best way, said Kohen. Further, Kohen said students are provided with support services in their course shells such as live chat with the Academic Support Center, Writing Center and even the librarian. There are more information tabs to help the students such as Microsoft Teams and the Virtual Classroom, she said.
Kohen says that “With this increasingly digital world we live in, it seems like there
is always something new to explore that might better connect us all virtually.” She emphasizes the best parts about her job are “Collaborating with other departments across the Daytona State College campus.” Also, she enjoys working with the Student Government Association (SGA). Overall, Kohen values it when college students finally grasp the information their college professors are trying to teach them.
