Mid-way into the new semester, Daytona State College Music Industry Club has been steadily growing.
Since becoming MIC president, Julien Collins, also known as Jules, has been very passionate about the direction of the club.
MIC has kept a steady membership, adding new activities and performing scheduled events outside of school.
Yet MIC’s primary focus is connecting everyone to create a network of music industry students. While Collins has plenty of ideas for new ventures club members would like to participate in, club members have a strong connection with one another musically and cordially.
“The club as a whole is stronger than before,” stated Collins when discussing the club’s focus on networking. Collins wants to influence connecting everyone, as when club members graduate, they will still be friends with people they previously worked with.
MIC has become a family. Members are working together on music along with working on personal projects. Students also provide feedback to one another on music a fellow member releases. “MIC tries to do album release parties for members who release albums,” said Collins.
Club members have individually released music since the beginning of the semester. Whenever members drop music, “They encourage it, hype up the music on social media, they all listen and download it,” said Collins.
Music Production Technology student and MIC member Stacey Daniels was a DJ and EDM producer before joining MIC. Now she DJs as part of MIC and outside of DSC.
MIC members are just as passionate as their president is. Stacey Daniels spoke highly of her experiences in the club, especially “the (number) of amazing people you meet and the relationships that you build.”
Club members are equally thrilled about their president as about the club itself. Daniels affirmed that “Jules has done an absolutely amazing job keeping the club alive.”
Jacob Seward, also known by DeCree, said, “I think one of the things I’ve taken was how we all come together as one (Music) Industry Club, whether you are just starting the program or getting ready to graduate. Everyone is very welcoming, especially the club president, Julien Collins.”
Nevertheless, the club is stronger than ever due to Collins’ leadership. MIC is also implementing new learning base activities so members can gain knowledge. Collins wants MIC to “find a balance between staying productive and having a good time.” Games such as Guess the Lyric and musical chairs have been played at meetings thus far.
Club members also participate in school activities on various DSC campuses. For instance, Daniels deejays at most school events such as Welcome Back and Safe Spring Break. However MIC wants to add a movie night along with hosting a concert on the main campus. Students from any program are welcome.
Collins also wants MIC to further participate in outside school events, such as having the MIC band play at DeLandapalooza. Members of MIC also performs regularly at Caribbean Jack’s open mic nights.
