The 2024 general election is just around the corner, and your vote can make a difference. With a surge of newly registered voters this year, many people will be navigating their ballots for the first time. That’s why it’s important to be informed about what’s on your local ballot to ensure your voice is heard.
There are 3 ways to vote in Florida. You can vote in person on Election Day, November 5th, 2024. If you are unsure of your voting locations, you can check using this link https://www.vote.org/polling-place-locator/. If you would like to vote early, check when your locations are open for early voting.
You can also vote-by-mail. Any registered voter may request their ballot by mail online, or by calling their local Elections Office. All voted mail ballots must be received by the Elections Office at 7:00pm on Election Day. Drop boxes are also available at early voting sites.
The 2024 general election ballot is made up of numerous components. While much of the attention is focused on the presidential election, there are many other significant points on the ballot.
“My biggest advice is don’t just come to the polling place prepared to vote for the presidential race. On any given ballot, there could be dozens of elections listed on the municipal, state, and federal levels.”, the Executive Director at Youth Action Fund, Cameron Driggers, said.
“In many ways, these down-ballot races impact our lives infinitely more than that of the President”, he adds.
Florida voters will elect representatives for various seats in the Florida House ofRepresentatives and Florida Senate(depending on the district). All 28 congressional districts in Florida will have elections for representatives in the U.S. House.
Various school board seats across the state will be on the ballot, depending on the district. Based on the county or city, voters may also elect mayors, city commissioners, county commissioners, and other local officials. Certain Florida Supreme Court justices and District Court of Appeal judges will be up for retention votes.
Six Constitutional Amendments will be on the 2024 Florida General Election Ballot, addressing key rights for residents. Make sure to educate yourself on both the amendments and your local candidates.
If you would like to study your candidates and the amendments that will be on the ballot, you can visit your county’s Supervisor of Election’s website to view a sample ballot for your area.
