Daytona State College’s new Student Residence Hall is opening this August.
Beginning construction in 2020, the Student Residence Hall had its opening ceremony, complete with a ribbon cutting and tours of the facility, on May 5 from 1-2 pm.
“Having a dorm on such a small campus is really groundbreaking for us (DSC), and we are super excited to have this opportunity to bring more students in,” said Kamrin Bunn, Residence Life Coordinator on campus.
Bunn will be living full term in the Student Residence Hall, overseeing the residence assistants (RAs) and students living in the facility. There will be an RA on each floor to assist students with any troubles.
Two-hundred fifty-two students will be living in the dorms, including 4 RAs. Floor plans include a 4-bedroom with shared bathroom, 2-bedroom with shared bathroom, and a single room with a private bathroom. Financial aid and payment plans can be used towards the dorm’s cost; contact Student Accounts at (386) 506-3024 for information on payments.
Qualifications for the applicants include a minimum of 12 credit hours for spring and fall (6 for summer), a 2.0 GPA, and they must be over the age of 18 by December 1st. Residents will each have their own parking pass; parking on campus is free. The dorms will need to be vacated over winter and spring breaks.
Apart from having a study area and vending machines on each floor, residents will be able to participate in exclusive events such as movie nights. The dining hall, gym, and welcome desk in the L.Gale Lemerand Student Center will have extended hours in accordance with the opening of the residence hall.
“I am looking forward to the opening of the Residence Hall and the opportunities this will provide our students, both resident and non-resident falcons,” said Elijah Houser, Director of Student Life and the Residence Hall. “This is an exciting time to be a Falcon, and I can’t wait to see all of the positive changes the Residence Hall will have on our campus. The Residence Hall represents a new and exciting phase for Daytona State College.”
