Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and the Daytona State College community is buzzing with excitement. Whether students and staff are celebrating with a special someone, friends, or simply embracing self-love, the campus is filled with anticipation for the festivities ahead.
Abiel Tucker, a political science student at Daytona State College, has an idea of what she’d like to do for Valentines Day in the future.
“Going on a picnic, like on a beach or something, maybe going to a park.” she said. This idea is timeless and would be perfect, considering the beautiful beaches in Daytona.
In contrast, Demetrio Martinez, a clinical psychology student at Daytona State College, plans to go out to a local Asian restaurant called Leanh’s with his partner.
“I was going to go get dinner in Daytona and get ice cream afterward,” he said.

Another DSC student, Taylor Murray says, “I’m probably just going to go out to dinner with my girlfriend.”

However, romantic dates are not the only plans on the table. Kendra Loughry, the Institutional Event Coordinator at Daytona State College, and her lunch buddies plan to “have a little taco buffet for lunch tomorrow.” This is an original take on the new Galentine’s tradition, a Valentine’s celebration of female friendship.

Finally, David Morrison, the senior office assistant for Admissions, has a special evening in mind for his wife.
“I think I want to take her to Hawaiian Breeze,” he said. Romantic dinners seem to be a popular choice for Valentine’s plans, including Morrison’s, as he reflects, “In our sixteen years of marriage, we’ve been out one time as a couple.”
No matter how the Daytona State College community chooses to celebrate, it is clear that Valentine’s Day is a time to embrace love in all its forms. Whether through quiet moments of self-love, special dinner plans with a significant other, or celebrating friendships, the holiday brings people together and reminds us of the importance of connection. As the students and staff prepare for their festivities, it’s clear that love, in its many expressions, is what makes this day so meaningful.
