If you’re from North Florida, you might already be familiar with Moxie Vintage. Nestled perfectly on Beach Street, this vintage store turns heads and keeps surprising us every time with their unique finds that cater to every style.
Moxie Vintage offers a vibe like nowhere else. Immediately upon entrance, you will notice the alluring music that never fails to have you dancing throughout the store. The energy is vibrant with historic and new-wave pieces meshing perfectly together. There is truly something for everyone.
The authenticity of vintage clothing at an affordable price is something special. The founder and owner of the shop, Daniel Scott, cares about his customers deeply, and it shows. “Every day people come in and I can really hear and get a vibe of the tone” says Scott. He picks up on what they’re “culturally into” and “style-into”, and he curates with that information.
Daniel Scott and his mother founded Moxie Vintage in 2013, where they initially featured a wide range of vintage items including home goods and clothing. Today, while their primary focus has shifted to vintage clothing, they continue to carry accessories, luggage, bedding, and similar items.
Year ten, Scott found himself “at a crossroad”, meaning there needed to be some growth and change. This was sad news for the Moxie-loving community. In February of 2022 Moxie Vintage closed its doors, a closure we initially believed would be permanent. After leaving to pursue endeavors in California, a new store had found itself setting up shop in the same space Moxie Vintage had once thrived in.
Ironically enough, this store was also a vintage store. Daytona Vintage did well, attracting a different group with collectors’ items. Unfortunately, Daytona Vintage closed in February of 2024.
On March 23, 2024, Moxie Vintage posted on their Instagram with the caption, “Returning to Our Downtown Daytona Beach Location This April Moxie Funk 2.0”. No warning, no rhyme or reason, just “we’re back”. Seriously, one of the most shocking and iconic announcements in this area.
The store is almost the exact same as it had been right before they closed in 2022. It felt incredibly nostalgic when I first walked in.
I have been a Moxie Vintage customer since 2020. While I may be a recent addition to Moxie Vintage’s customer base in the grand scheme of the store’s history, it has undeniably influenced my formative years. “I really do love being around cliental that I can get an instant initial response from” says Scott. Excited to be back, Scott plans to keep the store vibrant and dynamic as it always has been.
Students should certainly check it out, as Daytona State’s main campus is just two miles down the road from the most seasoned vintage store around.
