On November 16th, 2022, the Daytona State College men’s basketball team went up against Indian River State College from Fort Pierce, FL in their sixth overall game of the fall season. DSC came out on top with a 111-101 win against IRSC.
According to the statistics page on DSC’s Falcons Athletics Website, the men’s basketball team has won two home games, one away game, and three neutral games equaling their 6-0-win streak. After the six games, the team’s point average for the season was 103.2.
Former DSC Falcons Coach Jeffery Gillis stated, “Everyone is feeling good about the season so far.” Gillis is confident that DSC will end the season at the top of their conference.
Before this game, both teams boasted 5-0 win streaks, making it an important game for either team’s season.
Head Coach Joey Cantens expressed his admiration for the team. “We are a combination of skill and toughness,” said Cantens, “I have been very demanding of my team, and they have responded well.”
Last year, the Falcons only won 11 out of 30 games, with a roster of only six players, after starting the year with just one player. Under the leadership of Head Coach Joey Cantens, the team has rebuilt into who they are now.
This year, the Falcons have 13 players, eight new and five returning. Six of these players are international, including Kezza Giffa, a guard from Léonard de Vinci high school in Paris, France and Christos Karyotis, a center from the Private School of Fryganiwtis in Katerini, Greece.
“The team has a hungry attitude,” stated Assistant Coach Nashad Mackey, “We are off to a great start…We have guys passionate about winning. We have great people.”
