The team caps off an impressive 20-0 season with a thrilling double overtime shootout in the National Championship game. After a hard battled regulation, the game went into penalty kicks where the Falcons won 5-4 with goalkeeper Julianna Trujillo making two saves as well as the final save to win the match with forward Reese Garcia Roman also making the final kick.
DSC sports are on the rise as the men’s team was able to advance all the way to the finals for the first time in program history. While they did end up losing to Indian Hills Community College in a nailbiter, it is still an impressive feat for Daytona as both the men’s and the women’s were able to make it to the championship game.

On top of the trophy, the Lady Falcons also brought in some awards. Midfielder Shaneil Buckley was able to not only earn Most Valuable Player honors but also Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the NJCAA tournament. The aforementioned goalkeeper Julianna Trujillo also brought home the Most Outstanding Defensive Player award. The Coach of the Tournament went to Daytona’s own Hope Clark.
A huge part of the teams success comes from the culture. “This team is a close-knit group. We’re all best friends, so our chemistry on the field is incredible. After winning the first championship, our team didn’t get complacent,” said midfielder Morgan Long. “The incoming freshmen wanted it just as much as the sophomores. We were determined to win each game, and that’s what led us to an undefeated season.” The comradery became the foundation of the team that has now won back-to-back national titles.
For many on the team, the lasting impact will go far beyond this season. “I’ll always remember the diversity of our group and how that led us to learn so much from one another…The most meaningful one is resilience,” defender Lina Modomo recalled. “We showed it during preseason, throughout every game and practice, even off the field. That resilience shaped who we were as a team, and it’s something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.” That resilience is what carried them to a perfect 20-0 season, a standard that many will never forget.

After accomplishing this great feat, sophomore defender Regan Riddle reflected on the weight of this achievement. “The past two seasons at Daytona State will be an everlasting memory for me. All the hard work that was put in from the players, coaches, and athletics department was worth it.” She added, “The program has created new standards, and I believe the expectations will only go up from here.”
All in all, the team’s impressive undefeated season to seal the second National Championship in a row was defined by not only their talent, but also their resilience. The culture that coach Hope Clark and all the players have helped to build has been crucial to their success this season and they will look to carry this momentum into next season.
The Daytona State College Women’s Soccer team has won the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Championship after defeating Arizona Western College on Saturday. This marks their second straight title after beating Arizona Western last year in an exciting overtime win in which they won 2-1.
