After starting the year hot with three wins and zero losses, the Los Angeles Chargers were atop the NFL with wins against all three division opponents in the Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos. The next four games, however, were nothing short of disappointing. They won just one of those four games, with the only win being from a last second miracle effort from superstar quarterback Justin Herbert.
The Chargers have dealt with the injury bug this year, with All-Pro left tackle Rashawn Slater missing the entire season. They have also had to deal with the loss of many star players such as Khalil Mack, Najee Harris, Omarion Hampton, Joe Alt, and others missing extended time.
Still, the Chargers were entering a must-win game against the Minnesota Vikings this past Thursday, with huge playoff implications. Had they lost, their playoff odds drop to just forty-six percent. The prime time win, however, bumped their odds up to a whopping seventy-two percent.
Los Angeles stunned with their brand-new navy-blue throwback uniforms under the lights, reminiscent of their time in San Diego. Despite the abysmal performance last week against the Indianapolis Colts, Charger fans were hopeful they could turn it around this week, especially in front of some Charger legends such as Rodney Harrison and Hall of Famer Antonio Gates.

The Chargers were able to silence doubters this week. Everything that had gone wrong in the past four games seemed to have faded away.
Sophomore sensation and offensive tackle, Joe Alt, returned after missing the last three weeks with an ankle injury, and made his presence known. The offensive line, which struggled immensely these last few games without him, was able to give Herbert enough time to throw for over 220 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Chargers were even able to feed some of their young up and coming stars, such as rookies Oronde Gadsden II and Tre Harris, and enabled them to get into the end zone on Thursday. General Manager Joe Hortiz has been building a foundation through the draft, and it showed against the Vikings.
Second year running back, Kimani Vidal, has been able to fill the void at the position after losing the aforementioned Hampton and Najee Harris to injury earlier in the season. Vidal has been able to put up some impressive stat lines this month with over a hundred yards and a touchdown in two out of the last three games, including the game against Minnesota.
Los Angeles’ pass rush was also able to finally put it together, as they were able to sack Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz five times. Mack’s absence has been felt since his injury, but the Chargers front seven made it look like he had never left.
The Chargers would end up winning 37-10, a big difference from their 38-24 loss to the Colts just last Sunday. Fans were calling for the firing of Coordinators Greg Roman and Jesse Minter, yet they were able to quiet the noise and get a must-needed dominant win.

Roman’s offense was able to put up over thirty points this week, as well as punting the ball zero times for the first time since 2021. Minter, on the other hand, was able to hold the Vikings to just one touchdown.
Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, will look to carry this momentum forward with hopes that this game will help get them back in the driver’s seat of the AFC West. The Chargers have a tough schedule upcoming with games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles to name a few. Will the Chargers lie down, or will they overcome?
