Hi Everyone! My name is Mia Alexander, and I’m a sophomore at Daytona State College, finishing up my AA degree. I plan transfer to SNHU next fall to pursue my BA in Communication online, and I’m hoping to join their student newspaper once I get settled. It’s bittersweet knowing this is my final year at DSC and with In Motion, but I’m honored to be serving as the Editor-in-Chief. When I’m not writing or editing, I love reading The New Yorker—its wit, cultural depth, and investigative journalism always inspire me.

Hello! I’m Katie, the Managing Editor for the In-Motion Newspaper here at DSC. I’ve lived in Palm coast my whole life, I started attending DSC in 2025 and I’m majoring in English. After graduating I want to stay in journalism, but along with that I plan to follow my plan and dream to become an author. Writing is very much my passion, and I want to continue to pursue it.

Hello! My name is Ava Traill. This is my second year as In Motion’s Staff Photographer. I am working towards my Associate’s degree before transferring to UCF, where I will major in Business Administration. I have enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and I am passionate about taking photos of the places I go. I enjoy reading and academics.

Ashton is an aerospace photographer, fine artist, and journalist focusing on humanity’s progress in space exploration. Inspired by the modern space race, he is currently working to transfer to UCF to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. His work as a photojournalist has allowed him to receive NASA press accreditation, where he documents rocket launches and the growing aerospace industry in Florida. His long-term ambition is to contribute to advancing aerospace technology and research, helping humanity expand beyond Earth and toward becoming an interstellar species.

I am a sophomore at Daytona State College currently earning a transfer degree. I plan to earn a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, working in cancer research. I plan to specialize in lung cancer related to synthetic substance abuse. I love learning about medicine, health sciences, and environmental research. Outside of school I enjoy baking, cooking, crochet and surfing!

Hello everyone! My name is Lauren Bigelow, a sophomore associate of arts student through the Quanta Honors program at DSC. I am honored to be your Illustrator for In Motion this year! I am planning to transfer to Stetson for either Creative Writing or Criminal Justice following my graduation. But in my free time, I like to watch anime, play video games (Stardew Valley and Blue Prince), and complete logic puzzles!

Hey y’all! My name is Molly Siracusa, and I am so excited to be a part of the team this year. I am going to DSC for my AA, then will transfer to UCF for a bachelor’s in marketing. I love Jesus, horses, boating, and all things agricultural. I am also a part of DSC’s literary magazine, Aeolus. I am the host of the podcast, Aeolus: Unveiled! My biggest goal is to create a peaceful, loving, Jesus-centered life.

Hello! My name is Samanta Gonzalez and I’m in my third semester at Daytona State College. I’m working towards my Associate’s degree here at DSC and hope to transfer to a four year university to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in political science. Outside of my interests in politics I enjoy reading, writing, and thrifting. I love fashion and consider it my second love — reading being my first — I particularly love the freedom fashion gives the individual to express themselves outwardly. I’m currently working towards my associate’s degree at DSC, with plans to transfer to UCF. I’m excited to write about and cover DSC sports this year!

I’m Patricia Mercado, a soon-to-be software engineer who moved from Puerto Rico to Florida to chase bigger goals and grow as both a creator and a problem-solver. I’m into web development that’s not just functional, but thoughtful—especially when it comes to preserving history and making it look sharp. My goal in life is to open a cozy little café—something I’ve always dreamed of—and use my tech skills to make it a space that’s creative, welcoming, and uniquely mine.

Thank you for visiting our website! I’m Dr. Harun Karim Thomas, Dr. T for short, and I’m starting my sixth year as advisor of In Motion. When I was an undergraduate journalism and English major at the University of Florida, one of several favorite English professors, Dr. Amitava Kumar, once said that I’d end up returning to journalism. Here I am—and I’m beyond excited to work with this current crew of committed journalists. In my spare time, I play drums, read, write, watch fútbol and football, and travel to visit my kids, who live in Charlotte.
