Hello everyone! My name is Landen Looker, and being a part of the In Motion staff is an honor. I’ve always had a passion for writing, but it wasn’t until meeting Dr. T that my passion was fully realized and directed. After I transfer to University of North Florida next fall, I hope to work towards my bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. When I am not at school, I am usually working at one of my two jobs. Part of my writing passion is fueled by wanting to give a voice to those that are not always heard. Through my many life-changing travel experiences, I have developed a deep curiosity and love for culture. I also enjoy surfing, creating art and music, and most importantly, dancing! I am very excited for what this year has in store for us.

Hello everyone! My name is Lauren Bigelow, and I am in my second semester at DSC! I am so grateful to be serving as managing editor for In Motion. I have strong interests in writing, drawing and especially graphic design, which is why I plan to earn my bachelor’s in graphic design at either Stetson or UCF following my AA Degree! In my free time you will find me practicing the many instruments I play, planning my next Dnd session, or coasting down 95 listening to Def Leppard. I hope that through my time at In Motion, I can begin the conversations that matter between members of the diverse student body at DSC. Thank you for reading my stories!

Hi Everyone! My name is Mia Alexander, and this is currently my second semester as a Freshman here at Daytona State College. I’m working towards earning my AA Degree and my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, it is my dream to become a 2nd grade teacher where I will get to lovingly nurture little minds, share in their adorable laughter, and be comforted by their sweet, smiling faces every day. I love Jesus, having him in my heart, makes every moment sweeter, every challenge lighter, and my soul is filled with happiness that overflows. I love listening to music, some of my favorite artists and bands are Taylor Swift (Folklore, Evermore, and The Tortured Poets Department), Noah Kahan, Zach Bryan, and Wallows. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to write for In Motion again this semester, and I’m very excited to share my stories with all of you!

Hi everyone! My name is Natasha Powell and I’m from Cape Town, South Africa. After a fulfilling career as a professional ballet dancer, I’ve shifted my focus to pursuing an English degree with dreams of eventually attending law school. Writing has always been a big part of my life, and I’m very passionate about journalism. Outside of my studies, I enjoy playing golf, running with my dog, and hiking. I’m set to graduate with my Associate of Arts in the Spring of 2025 and am currently exploring options for transferring to complete my bachelor’s degree. I’m thrilled to be joining In Motion this year and can’t wait to dive into all the exciting stories ahead!

Hello! My name is Ava Traill. This is my second year as In Motion’s Staff Photographer. I am working towards my Associate’s degree before transferring to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where I will major in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I have enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean and I am passionate about taking photos of the places I go. I enjoy creative writing and academics, but in my free time I prefer to spend time with friends, cook and chill with my three black cats.

Thank you for visiting our website! I’m Dr. Harun Karim Thomas, Dr. T for short, and I’m starting my fourth year as advisor of In Motion. When I was an undergraduate journalism and English major at the University of Florida, one of several favorite English professors, Dr. Amitava Kumar, once said that I’d end up returning to journalism. Here I am—and I’m beyond excited to work with this current crew of committed journalists. In my spare time, I play drums, read, write, watch fútbol and football, and travel to visit my kids, who attend universities in North Carolina and Connecticut. I’m currently working on a short story and starting a project with a friend that examines coaching at the college level and economics.
