Summer is quickly approaching, and a majority of anime that have aired from early to mid-spring for 2023 have already concluded or will conclude soon enough. Because of this, it’s the perfect time to look at some of the anime shows and movies set for release in the coming season. With this in mind, here are some long awaited shows and movies.
Show: Jujutsu Kaisen- Season 2
With both the first season, releasing in 2020, and its 2022 prequel movie “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” both achieving massive success, anyone with two braincells would guess “Jujutsu Kaisen” would receive a season 2. For those who haven’t seen the trailer, this season will focus on Satoru Gojo’s past as a second-year student sorcerer in 2006, along with his friend/rival Suguru Geto (who would be his future enemy). The two go on a mission and are faced with challenges that would be the turning point in both their lives forever.
Show: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation- Season 2
One of the few series that started the Isekai genre (main character sent to another world setting), “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation”will get its long-awaited season 2. With its complex storytelling, characters, and first season’s heartbreaking conclusion, this show quickly became a massive favorite for anime fans.
For this season, the show will have the main character Rudeus attend a university for magic users while focusing on answering questions about his unexpected arrival to the new world, and the disaster that caused both him and others around him chaos in their lives. Knowing this, “Mushoku Tensei” season 2 is definitely going to be on my “must watch” list.
Movie: Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King
With the Black Clover anime being on hiatus due to there not being enough content from the manga to adapt, this movie will hopefully make up for the years since the anime “ended.” From whatever plot synopsis that could be found, the agreed upon story is that the main character Asta and his friends will be fighting a former Wizard King and the movie will be released in June.
Fans of Black Clover should know that the manga creator Yuki Tabata will work on the movie as a supervisor. Despite the story of the movie being created by Tabata himself, the movie will be non-canon. However, this shouldn’t deter watchers from seeing this movie upon its release on Netflix.
Who Knows? Maybe when the show does continue, the money the movie brings in will end the bad animation the show somewhat suffers from due to Studio Pierott being understaffed.
Movie: Overlord: The Holy Kingdom
The existence of this movie is more speculation than confirmed at the moment. There is no official trailer, much less official release date. For those who aren’t aware, the movie was confirmed to be in production in May 2021, and in August 2022 a key visual was revealed.
Since then, news about the movie has been very quiet. However, the plot of the movie is known as it is adapting “The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom” arc that covers volumes 12 and 13 from the light novels with the events being briefly mentioned in season 4, which covers volumes 11, 12, and 14. Knowing what happens in the story, fans of this dark fantasy Isekai series are going to love this movie and I myself can’t wait for it to be adapted.
