Greetings fellow Star Wars Fans! As you might have guessed with the Star Wars celebration having concluded weeks ago, what better topic to talk about other than Star Wars itself? Although Disney might have mishandled Star Wars in many terrible ways (look at the sequel trilogy, Book of Boba Fett, and the tragic Kenobi show), there is one way the “House of Mouse” could make Star Wars more entertaining: their villains. Here are some potential (yet unlikely) choices from the piles of non-canon “Star Wars: Legends” content.
Darth Talon
In a book called “The Star Wars Archives 1999-2005,” Lucas originally had Darth Talon planned to be an apprentice of an older Darth Maul. In this sequel trilogy, Talon was a Darth Vader-esque character and would be the main villain, with the protagonist group mostly centering around Anakin’s grandchildren and Leia. There is proof of original plans for her to be in “The Force Awakens,” with concept art of her with a shadowy figure (perhaps Snoke?) behind her, and some sketched storyboards. Like her role in Star Wars: Legends, she would corrupt Han and Leia’s son. However, as time went on, Talon was eventually mixed/replaced with said son, leading to Kylo Ren instead. This was truly a missed opportunity for Star War’s fans.
Abeloth
For those who are familiar with the 2008 Clone Wars series, you would recall a three-part episode featuring Obi-wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka landing on a mysterious planet called Mortis. On this planet they would meet somewhat god-like immortal beings called the Son, the Daughter, and the Father, who represented the dark side, light side, and balance within the force. Who was the Mother, you ask? Well in Star Wars: Legends this was Abeloth, who started out as a mortal servant to these beings thousands of years ago. Fearing she would lose them, Abeloth consumed and bathed in what was portrayed as the liquid version of power and knowledge before going insane and transforming into a lovecraftian monster, making the Father take his children away, with the children soon imprisoning Abeloth within “The Maw.” Although there is no canon appearance of Abeloth, in“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Han and the gang go through the Kessel Run and encounter a tentacle monster, called a summa-verminoth. Perhaps this was a little nod/easter egg for her? Nevertheless, when she does escape in Legends, it takes both Luke and a group of Sith to imprison her once again. This was an enemy that would’ve added some much-needed horror to the franchise, and with her ability to make avatars via consuming people, Snoke could’ve easily been explained as one of these avatars for her in the sequel trilogy.
Darth Lumiya
When it comes to having Sith apprentices, Darth Vader is no exception. Although Galen Marek (aka Starkiller) and his clones are often associated with this role, in Legends Darth Lumiya was both an apprentice to Vader, along with being a force-trained assassin for Sidious and the Empire. During this time, she would engage in battle with Luke with her lightsaber whip (yes you read that right), causing her to need cybernetics. After Vader and Sidious’ death, Lumiya took over as “Lady of the Sith” and years later would actually corrupt Jacen Solo (who is often described as the “Original” Kylo Ren) to the dark side. Like Talon, Lumiya was a missed opportunity for Star Wars fans, as her lightsaber whip would’ve made her just as iconic as Darth Maul with his unique lightsaber.
