The Student Photography Association, or SPA, is a club dedicated to everything photography related. Spring is the first semester the club has been active. The former photography club was shut down due to the pandemic.
Ashton Guitard, a photography student on campus, has stepped up to serve as club president with Joe Vance acting as advisor.
“I wanted to be in a photography club for a long time.” Guitard said. When he realized there wasn’t currently one of campus, he decided to take the initiative to start it himself.
Guitard says the club’s main goal for this semester is for everyone to focus on critique and creatively explore other areas of photography. They encourage constructive criticism, and through this they hope to nurture a creative, constructive, and professional environment.
“I have enjoyed collaborating with Guitard to provide an interactive, educational, and inspiring environment for students,” said Karina Bell, vice president of SPA. “We will continue to provide meetings with fun prompts, honest critiques, and workshops.”
The club welcomes anyone who is pursuing photography as a profession, or even just interested in it as a hobby. They meet in building 530, room 118 once a month and offer free pizza every meeting.
