Day-to-day can feel just so, day to day. Repetitive, mundane tasks tend to stack up, leaving a feeling of boredom amongst the human population. This is not a new-age feeling. In fact, arguably the oldest piece of literature known to date, The Epic of Gilgamesh, describes a story of a Demi-god who’s fed up with mortality and wishes he could live forever. Siduri, a tavern keeper in the epic, explains to Gilgamesh that he must enjoy what we commonly refer to as “the little things in life” and not worry about the happenings outside his control, ultimately his mortality.
Slowing down, seeing and appreciating the beauty that constantly surrounds us can slow the day down to the individual hours, minutes and seconds. Many of us are on campus regularly, and it is easy to disregard the beauty of Daytona State’s Daytona Beach Campus. Observation can reveal compositions that seemed as though they were never there. Try a new perspective, see how much more beautiful life can become, and something as simple as a second look can affect your connection to the world around you.
