Daytona State College just hosted their Student Government Association’s 2023 Club Banquet. Members of the school’s clubs gathered in their best semi-formal attire to eat pasta, show off their clubs, and maybe get an award or two.
The decorations at the event were an assortment of ribbons and balloons, decorating the room and the tables. There was a raffle for gift cards and a jellybean guessing game at the entrance.
The Student Government had an inclusive menu for their buffet line. There was a vegetarian friendly sauce option, along with meatless protein crumbles, and gluten-free spaghetti. However, there were many at the event that were wondering why there was a lack of water bottles. According to an anonymous student, the SGA had only gotten one case of water bottles for the event. With only one case of water, they ran out before most people arrived to the line for food.
After being fed, the exhibitions began for the clubs. It was a surprise to those who were there just for the free meal.
The first presentation was by the American Sign Language Club. They gave the room a task: to play Hangman, but with a twist. Players had to guess letters through ASL. This was well-received by everyone in attendance and every table participated in this activity.
The second exhibition was by the Digital Media Falcons. They played a student created short film entitled “Part Two,” which, according to the presenter, was about PTSD and stalking.
For the last presentation, the club CHEMLIVE presented a new sobriety test and forced everyone to participate. Their intentions were clear: create a better test for sobriety. In reality, it was a memory game. The presenters put water in one out of three plastic cups and switched their positions. Participants had to then tell them which cup had the water, but it was a trick. None of the cups had water anymore.
The last item on the agenda was awards. There were several awards to be received, including the “Putting the ‘Award’ in Award” and the “Leadership”awards. The SGA gave out certificates and medals to winners.
Attendees were able to vote for “best exhibition” and “best tri-fold display” through a QR code. The award for best exhibition was given to CHEMLIVE for their sobriety test. Global Friends won the award for best tri-fold display.
