Anything can seem easy in theory, but to fully understand how things work, it is imperative not to apply “textbook knowledge” to real-world situations. This is why the Dental Hygiene Clinic program requires that all students in the complete a certain number of hours in the clinic.
The clinic is meant to treat an array of patients while also giving students the opportunity to gain the mandatory clinical experience hours required to graduate.
The staff at the Dental Hygiene Clinic mostly consists of dental hygiene students currently enrolled at Daytona State College.
The program relies on Daytona State students, the college’s staff, and its community to use as patients. The students gain experience by providing dental treatment and care services in the Dental Hygiene Clinic.
“We provide preventive services such as oral prophylaxis [teeth cleaning], periodontal debridement [removal of plaque], dental radiographs [x-rays], and topical fluoride treatment,” said Pamela Ridilla, Senior Professor of Dental Hygiene. “In addition, we provide complete oral exams and oral cancer screenings.”
Due to the treatments being given by dental hygiene students, the cost of the services provided are extremely reduced. This is one of the perks of coming to the Dental Hygiene Clinic of Daytona State College.
The prices are as follows:
- $10 for students and children
- $15 for DSC employees
- $20 for community
Be aware that the program ONLY accepts cash and checks.
The Dental Hygiene Clinic is located at Daytona State College’s DeLand Campus, specifically in the Bert Fish Hall (Building 6A), Room 100. The clinic is open Monday-Thursday and appointments are walk-in.
To have enough time to fill out the necessary paperwork, it is recommended that patients arrive between the hours of 8:30 – 11 a.m. or 1:30 – 4 p.m. The clinic closes at 5 p.m.
Come in today to help the dental hygienists of tomorrow.
