Among the many activities available on campus, one of which is progressively gaining popularity is supporting the men’s basketball team at their games.
This is an activity that not many students are accustomed to, but is slowly picking up traction. After attending a game myself, it is clear that the 17-1 Falcons offer students a fun social outing complimented by a competitive basketball viewing experience.
Fans can expect quality basketball to enhance their experience at the games. Daytona is just over halfway through the season and pushing forward strong, as head coach Joey Cantens preps his squad for a second consecutive playoff run.
Many students are unaware of the easy access to attend DSC basketball games. Located right on campus, the L. Gale Lemerand Health, Wellness and Community Education Center is where all of the Falcons’ home games take place.
If you currently attend Daytona State, then admission is free of charge given you present your Falcon ID. Otherwise, admission is just $5. Seating is general admission with bleachers on either side of the court, and open area at each baseline.
The game itself provides lots of excitement and hype. Although few, the DSC crowd is strong and passionate, mainly consisting of current DSC students. Throughout the game the crowd remains engaged, constantly starting various chants to show their support for the Falcons
The Falcons matchup against the Polk State Eagles on January 23 had people intrigued throughout due to the competitiveness and heart displayed by both sides. A rough first half for the Falcons from beyond the arc provided them with a mere 3 point advantage over Polk State after 20 minutes of play. However, Daytona State remained calm and collected, coming out firing in the second half with 30 points in the first 7 minutes, and from there they never looked back.
Despite winning the game by 31, 116-85, the DSC fans remained in full throughout the entirety of the contest, displaying their loyalty to the team. Key performances from star players Josue Grullon, Kylin Green, and Breylin Garcia soared the Falcons to victory, marking their eighteenth victory of the season.
At a game time of just under 2 hours, the Daytona State Men’s basketball team offers a combination of quick, fun, competitive entertainment for you and others to go and enjoy. A fully interactive scoreboard, comfortable seating venue, and a great atmosphere provided by fans, players, and coaches, are just a few of the many advantages to attending the basketball games.
The Falcons are currently ranked fifth, a 3 spot drop off from their previous second rank, suffering their first loss of the season at home to Eastern Florida State on Saturday, January 20. The boys’ next contest takes place AT Hillsborough Community College this coming Saturday, January 27.
